How sustainable is eco fashion?

"The road to hell is paved with good intentions" Right? While we may do our best too shop for eco fashion (organic cotton, fair trade, bamboo fabric, etc) Do our actions have un-forseen negative impacts on our environment that not only negate our best efforts to do right by the planet, but in fact counter act our actions so much that we might as well be shopping at Wal-Mart?!
